A7 Chord

The A7 Chord is also called a dominant chord. All dominant 7th dominant chords are built from the 5th degree of a scale.

It is also referred to as a Blues Chord, due to the fact that blues guitar players use dominant chords frequently on their playing. Once you learn how to play it you will see why it has this reputation. It has a distinct blues sound easily understandable. Also, is a popular chord because it is one of the easiest chords you can learn how to play on a guitar.

It is really simple because it only needs two fingers to play it. Some instructors might be more rigid on how the teach you, but frankly you can use whatever two fingers you want, this mainly depends on what chord you are coming from and which one is coming next.

There are many ways to play this chord, the easiest being by first locating the 1, 3 and 5 of the A major scale (A B C D E F G and A), then adding a flat 7 note.

It is fairly common that many people might get confused that a same chord can be played in different ways but still have the same name. The first chord, A7, must have the notes A C E and G. As long as a chord has those notes (in any order) it will be called an A7.

As a general tip we can give you is that you must be sure that you are pressing down on the string hard enough when you are playing the guitar. You should play each string one at a time to make sure you are doing it right. If any of the strings buzz or even sound muted, then something is not right. To play the A7 chord properly, you must press properly, it shouldn't be any hard.
