C Major Barre Chord

The C Major Barre Chord is another type of 'basic'that you must learn. Once you learn it you will be able to play many more songs. Like many other examples you will encounter while learning to play the guitar what you learn at some point, will eventually help you on other chords you will learn after it.

Barre Chords (Some people call them Bar Chords) are an important part in guitar playing. And they are commonly used in a wide variety of genres of music. From Blues to Jazz to Rock. They are called that way because you 'bar' all the strings at one fret with your index finger. To achieve taking all the frets with just one finger is not easy, but after a couple of tries you should be able to pull it off.

To play the C Barre Chord, you need to make a bar right across the first five strings, and use the tip of your first finger to mute the 6th string, the same as you would with the A shaped Bar Chords. You have probably noticed that there's only three strings that need to be barred in order to play this chord, but overall, it's much easier doing all five strings. Try doing it both ways, whatever works for you should do just fine.

Once you get a hang of it, and play it with no problem, you will be ready for more difficult and challenging Barre Chords, such as the F Barre Chord. Experiment on how you position your thumb, and remember, what ever work for you and gets results should be ok.

To get the C Barre Chord correctly, try the same exercise we always recommend, play each string one at a time in case that something is not sounding right. Make the necessary adjustments and you will be just fine.
