A Chord

The A Chord is the first chord we will teach you here at I Play Music. Is pretty easy and you will have no problem mastering it and feeling comfortable enough to move on. We believe that it is the easiest chord and hopefully you will too.

The most common way to play this chord consist on having the first, second and third fingers all almost in a row in the second fret. Another way to do it is to swap your first and second fingers. We encourage you to try both ways so you can have a feel for yourself and determine which of the two is better.

Also, you are not to pick the 6th string, but you will play the rest of the strings. While playing the A chord, you might eventually use your thumb to mute the 6th string, but for starters we recommend that for the time being (while still learning how to play), keep your thumb behind the guitar's neck.

Once you're done with the A Chord and doing it properly move on to the next lesson.
